Busted! Don’t Believe These Plumbing and HVAC Service Myths!
While the internet gives you unlimited access to a plethora of information, it is often the source of misinformation, especially when it comes to plumbing and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning issues. Many people that have their own way of fixing things, but unfortunately their solutions may not always be the best approach.
Often these approaches, despite being wrong are accepted as the best as they are provided by ‘reliable’ sources. Believing in these misconceptions make you vulnerable to plumbing and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning issues, which can cause great inconveniences and end up costing a fortune.
As committed Plumbing and HVAC Service providers, our aim is to help clients take care of their plumbing and HVAC systems. To help you do this correctly, we have debunked three of the most commonly believed Plumbing and HVAC myths.
Myth 1: My house is haunted, my doors slam shut by themselves.
Fortunately, it is not a ghost most of the time and it is just an imbalance of air flow in your home. There is to much air being forced into one area and to much air being sucked out of another area which causes the door to be sucked shut. If we cannot fix it and you do have a ghost, R&D will be unable to help and recommend the Ghostbusters as they would be a better option.
Myth 2: A small water leak is no big deal.
Very false! A small leak according to EPA standards can lead to 10,000 gallons of water per year in a single household or the equivalent of two hundred and seventy loads of laundry. Plus that leak can damage your faucet, and what can be even more costly and dangerous is that it could cause mold and wrought wood. A less damaging but just as costly effect of a leak is a running toilet, the dollars add up in a hurry when your toilet leaks 24x7 and 365 days a year.
Myth 3: Annual maintenance is not needed as if it’s not broken don't fix it.
Fifty to sixty percent of calls are preventable with annual maintenance. You need to check your heat exchangers for cracks or holes, you need to check your venting to make sure that there are no holes that have rusted through or no joints that have come apart. It’s not worth putting your family at risk to save a few dollars. We see such things like this all the time. I just had a customer come in with pictures of his boiler vent the six-inch galvanized elbow was rusted so badly that the back side of the elbow was gone. This was resulting in 150,000 Btu of exhaust pumping into the house every time the heat was on. Such a major breakdown does not happen overnight and has been like that for a long time, so these are some very lucky people.
