Meet One Of The Faces Behind R&D Plumbing and Heating

I’m Ryan MacDuff, proud co-owner of R&D Plumbing and Heating, along with Corey Dallyn and Brian Fischer.

I look forward to sharing my story. I hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better.

My Uncle Len James started James Plumbing, then my dad Don MacDuff, and his partner Roy Noble started R&D: Heating. They then bought out James Plumbing, and that is how R&D Plumbing and Heating was born.

So, we didn’t really start the company but got into the business because it was already in the family as everyone’s involvement in hockey led to regular meetings. We always liked our group of people and enjoyed working and interacting with the public, so after hockey, R&D became our new team.

R&D has been around for more than thirty years, and we worked together for about twenty-four of them. We grew from a team of two people to sixty-four in peak season when business was at its busiest. This taught us to deal with larger and smaller groups of people alike. Currently, we have increased our training sessions making sure our ‘techs’ are well trained. We learned most of what we know through experience, practice, and hands-on training along the way.

Our clients see and experience this first hand. They even appreciate us through calls or emails telling us how happy they are with our work, which is the most enjoyable part of what we do. It shows us that we have the right, thoroughly trained staff on the job, matching our business philosophy to ‘Be the Best.’

We treat all jobs, big or small the same way, we begin by going through the entire system and educating our clients on what’s going on. We tell them what needs to be repaired, could be repaired, and what we have available, so they can make the right decision accordingly. We do not discriminate between tasks based on the size of the job which separates us from the rest.

We handle all tasks as if it were our personal duties, the way we would manage the repairs of a grandparent's house. I begin by educating my clients, then follow by doing the best work possible, and stand by the work I have done. A lot of my success has come about by surrounding myself with smart and interesting people.

Every business has its challenges, but we make it a point to overcome difficult situations as a team. Our unity gives me immense satisfaction.

When I am not at work, I love fishing and watching the kids partake in hockey and dance. I am also a huge fan of our local community and greatly support kids sports or the local health foundations. We recently helped the Lloydminster Rescue Squad out with their new office and donated a furnace, and an air conditioner, while handling their ductwork as well. They were extremely happy with the air-conditioner and told me about it.

I have enjoyed sharing my story about the things which matter to me and how they influence the way I do business.
